Postings & Ponderings: Virabhadrasana II

For this month’s Postings & Ponderings, we’re featuring Virabhadrasana II.

In Light on Yoga, BKS Iyengar lists the following physical benefits of practicing Virabhadrasana II:

  • strengthens and shapes the leg muscles;
  • relieves leg cramps;
  • bring elasticity to leg and back muscles; &
  • tones the abdominal organs.

He encourages mastery in standing poses such as Virabhadrasana II as a means for preparing the body to eventually do forward bending poses with greater ease.

Virabhadrasana II is a GREAT pose to include in your home practice! Check out the fact sheet below (or download your own copy) for some instructions on how to get into the pose and what to do once you are there.

Virabhadrasana II is a powerful pose. As you become familiar with the general shape and basic instructions of the pose, also pay attention to how this asana makes you feel. Send us a photo and share with us your thoughts. As always, everyone who participates this month will be entered into a draw to win something awesome :).

IMPORTANT: don’t forget to tag your photos with #studiopo. That way, we won’t miss any of the submissions. Post your photos on FacebookTwitter, or Instagram.
