Postings & Ponderings: Virasana
For this month’s Postings & Ponderings, we’re featuring Virasana.
Virasana is translated as Hero Pose, as Vira means brave or heroic. Like a brave warrior with a proud, lifted chest, when seated in Virasana, one embodies strength and steadiness. Virasana is an important asana that can also be incorporated into a pranayama practice.
There are many benefits to practicing Virasana:
- refreshes fatigued legs;
- improves circulation in the legs;
- increases mobility in the knees, ankles and feet;
- decreases high blood pressure;
- improves digestion;
- revitalizes body and mind.
Please note: One should not remain in the asana if there is knee pain.
Include Virasana in your home practice. Download our fact sheet for instructions on how to get into the asana and what to do once you are there. Don’t forget to also keep us POsted on how you are making out with your home practice! Post photos, questions, or comments below and on our social media accounts (facebook, twitter, or instagram).
