Postings & Ponderings: Chatushpadasana

For this month’s Postings & Ponderings, we’re featuring Chatushpadasana.

Chatushpadasana is one of several asanas considered part of the Sarvangasana (shoulderstand) family of poses. It’s often learned before classical Sarvangasana, as it effectively and accessibly teaches how to shift one’s weight onto the shoulders. Chatushpadasana can also be used to prepare for back bends.

There are many benefits to practicing Chatushpadasana:

  • strengthens your hamstrings, buttocks, back muscles, and spine;
  • stretches your quadriceps, groins, abdomen, and neck muscles;
  • tones the nervous system;
  • reduces fatigue; and
  • rejuvenates the organs in the pelvis.
