Mentorship for Teachers

Thinking About Iyengar Yoga Teacher Training?

If you’ve been practicing Iyengar Yoga consistently, feel called to teach others, and have a sincere commitment to learn and grow, an Iyengar Yoga Mentorship with Stephanie and the Po Teaching Team may be the natural next step.

Mentorship, however, is not simply a program to “sign up for.” It’s a shared journey between student and mentor, involving a process of observation, refinement, study, and support.

Here’s How Mentorship Works

As an apprentice, you’ll be invited into a deep process of learning that includes:

  • Targeted guidance for your personal practice

  • Ongoing support as you develop teaching skills

  • Philosophical study and reflection

  • Opportunities to observe and assist in class

  • Personal feedback on your development, offered with clarity and kindness

Mentorship is an immersive and evolving relationship, not a hard and fast curriculum to complete. It’s a container for your long-term growth on the path of Iyengar Yoga.

About Certification

Mentorship is not the same as certification. Certification as an Iyengar Yoga teacher is granted only after a formal assessment conducted by the Iyengar Yoga Association of Canada (IYAC/ACYI).

The mentor’s role is to help prepare you for that process. In terms of your mentorship, what matters most is not how fast you progress but how fully the teachings take root. On average, apprentices are mentored for 3-5 years before taking their Level 1 Assessment.

Is Now the Right Time to Pursue Teacher Development?

Only you can answer that.

Please take time to reflect, as this is not a decision to be rushed. The process of becoming an Iyengar Yoga Teacher is a commitment, one that asks a great deal but offers even more in return.

If something in this speaks to you, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Together, we can explore your practice, your questions, and whether this path is in alignment with your needs.

Dialogue, clarity, mutual respect, and shared trust
are the building blocks of a strong mentorship.
